Electromagnetic Activation: When the automatic sprinkler system’s controller sends an electrical signal, the solenoid’s coil becomes energized, creating a magnetic field.
Plunger Movement: The magnetic field pulls a plunger (a metal rod) inside the solenoid upward. This movement opens a small port within the valve.
Pressure Release: Opening the port releases water pressure from the top of the valve’s diaphragm (a flexible rubber disc). Meanwhile, the inlet side of the valve maintains higher water pressure.
Diaphragm Lift: The pressure difference causes the diaphragm to lift, fully opening the valve and allowing water to flow through the pipes to the sprinkler heads.
Deactivation and Closure: When the controller stops the electrical signal, the solenoid’s coil de-energizes, and a spring pushes the plunger back into place, closing the small port. This restores pressure on top of the diaphragm, forcing it down and shutting off the water flow.
