When choosing solenoid valves for garden irrigation systems, multiple factors need to be comprehensively considered. The following are some key points:

Working Pressure

  • System Pressure Range: Understanding the working pressure range of the garden irrigation system is an important basis for selecting solenoid valves. Generally, the pressure of garden irrigation systems is usually around 2-6 kg/cm². The rated pressure of the solenoid valve should be greater than the maximum working pressure of the system to ensure normal operation when the system pressure fluctuates. For example, if the maximum pressure of the system is 5 kg/cm², the rated pressure of the solenoid valve should be no less than 6 kg/cm².

  • Pressure Loss: Different types and specifications of solenoid valves have different degrees of pressure loss during operation. When selecting, consider whether the pressure loss of the solenoid valve will affect the normal operation of the irrigation system. Especially in long pipeline or complex systems, pressure loss may lead to insufficient pressure at the sprinkler head, affecting the irrigation effect.

Flow Requirements

  • Number and Flow of Sprinkler Heads: Determine the flow of the solenoid valve according to the number, type, and flow requirements of the sprinkler heads in the garden irrigation system. Calculate the total flow of all simultaneously operating sprinkler heads, and then select a solenoid valve that can meet or slightly exceed this total flow. For example, if there are 10 sprinkler heads in a garden area, and the flow of each sprinkler head is 2 m³/h, then the total flow is 20 m³/h, and a solenoid valve with a flow of not less than 20 m³/h should be selected.

  • Diameter Matching: The diameter of the solenoid valve should match the diameter of the pipeline. Generally, the diameter of the solenoid valve should be equal to or slightly larger than the diameter of the pipeline to ensure smooth water flow, reducing water flow resistance and energy loss. If the diameter of the solenoid valve is too small, it will cause poor water flow and affect the irrigation efficiency; if the diameter is too large, it may increase the cost and may affect the control accuracy when the flow is small.

Control Modes

  • Manual Control: Suitable for small gardens or places with low requirements for irrigation control. Manual solenoid valves are opened and closed through manual operation, with a simple structure and low cost, but they require regular manual operation, which is not very convenient.

  • Automatic Control: For large gardens or places that require precise control of irrigation time and frequency, automatic solenoid valves are usually used. Automatic solenoid valves can be connected to a controller to automatically open and close according to a preset program, achieving timed and quantitative irrigation. Common automatic control modes include time control, humidity sensing control, rainfall sensing control, etc.

Material and Durability

  • Valve Body Material: The valve body material of the solenoid valve should have good corrosion resistance and wear resistance to adapt to various water qualities and soil conditions in the garden environment. Common materials include brass, stainless steel, and plastic. Solenoid valves made of brass and stainless steel have good corrosion resistance and are suitable for various water qualities, but the cost is relatively high; plastic solenoid valves have a lower cost, but their corrosion resistance and pressure resistance may be inferior to metal materials, and they are suitable for systems with good water quality and low pressure.

  • Sealing Material: The quality of the sealing material directly affects the sealing performance and service life of the solenoid valve. High-quality sealing materials should have good elasticity, aging resistance, and corrosion resistance. Common sealing materials include nitrile rubber, fluororubber, etc. Nitrile rubber has good sealing performance and a moderate price, and is suitable for general garden irrigation systems; fluororubber has better corrosion resistance and high-temperature resistance, but the cost is higher, and it is suitable for places with poor water quality or high environmental temperatures.

  • Market Reputation: Choose solenoid valves from well-known brands, which usually have a good market reputation and after-sales service. You can understand the reputation and product quality of different brands by checking product reviews, consulting other users or professionals. Solenoid valves from some well-known brands have better production processes, quality control, and performance stability. Although the price may be relatively high, it can reduce maintenance and replacement costs in the long run.

  • Quality Certification: Check whether the solenoid valve has passed relevant quality certifications, such as ISO 9001 quality management system certification, CE certification, etc. These certifications can prove that the product meets certain quality standards and technical requirements, increasing the reliability and credibility of the product.
